Ecobank and Court seals Shopping Mall in Umuahia

Customers were in the early hours of Monday, shocked to see their frequented shopping mall sealed off by a Federal High Court.

 The shopping mall houses many shopping ventures, including the Shoprite.


 When our correspondent visited the mall, the gates were locked and customers, who had come for shopping, wore sad  faces because they couldn’t make their planned purchases.

A notice on the front security room read, “Possession taken by receiver manager of Ecobank over Abia Retail Co Limited by order of court dated 17/12/19, FHC/L/LC/19”


When questioned, workers in the mall refused to comment on the development. Sources however said Ecobank sealed the mall over unpaid loans.

 A senior employee of Ecobank in Umuahia directed our correspondent to the bank’s regional office in Owerri. He also promised to get back to the reporter through the telephone but had not responded even as of the time of filing of this report.
